Facilitators

Chris Warnasch (Won Gwang) embarked on his journey into Buddhist philosophy during his undergraduate years in the early 1990s. He joined a small sangha a few years later, marking the beginning of his dedicated practice. After exploring various sanghas in Manhattan, he found his spiritual home with Won in 2017 and received his dharma name in 2018.

Balancing his time between Manhattan and Columbia County, New York, Chris is an active member of the Won Dharma Center sangha. Professionally, he works as a linguist, language instructor, and content developer, and he has an insatiable appetite for reading, focusing on language, science fiction, and dharma literature.

Kathleen Geist (Won Beop An) is a member of the Philadelphia Temple.  She received her Dharma name, Won Beop An, in 2012. She is one of the senior members taking turns to preside at Dharma Service, and is the moderator for a Canon Study group.

Laura Battey (Won Do) has been a dedicated member of the Manhattan Temple since 1994. She actively contributes to various special events at the Temple and plays a leading role in guiding moving meditation and chi kung practices during retreats. In her daily life, She integrates Won Buddhist practice into her daily life with mindful emphasis upon Master Soetasan’s core teaching that materialism should be balanced with spiritual cultivation.

Laura has coordinated special programs for Won Buddhism’s UN office and she holds a master’s degree in social policy. Laura is an artist who strives to bring a deep sense of presence in her expressionist paintings. She experiences the creative process as a manifestation of form from emptiness and emptiness from form in everyday life.
